Our Heritage

Early Years

The Remnant Church was officially established in 1993, originally as a church plant of River of Life Assembly of God in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  The Remnant has generally been a small church, but active in the local community.  Over the years, we have been cared for by several great pastors, as we met in many different locations in the Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg areas.  We were once known as Newfound Glory Assembly of God, and for many years were Freedom Church Assembly of God, Spotsylvania, Virginia (this is a courthouse admin building at 9019 Old Battlefield Boulevard in Suite 100J back in 2011).

"Church in a Box" Era

For some time, we met at the Spotsylvania American Legion at 8456 Brock Road, before finding a more permanent home in the Spotsylvania Courthouse area.  As we grew, we moved to a semi-permanent home for several years in a former section of the 24-hour Fitness at 4536 Plank Road.  Our most recent semi-permanent home was provided through a very generous arrangement with Victory Bible Church, where we met at 12341 Five Mile Road.  Just as the pandemic began, we moved to another church-in-a-box meeting location in a gymnasium at a local high school.

Home Church Era

During and after the pandemic, we met in the beautiful home of our Church Secretary, Diane.

New Pastor

Pastor DeWayne was elected and installed on June 30th, 2019, after Pastor Steve was led by the Spirit to pursue a new form of ministry in the local area - initially working with a special men's ministry taking men out of prison and teaching them construction and general contracting skills.

New Vision

We became the Remnant Church in 2024, after being called, by God, to remain faithful as a congregation.  By the Hand of God, we were saved from nearly closing our doors during the pandemic.  As with any church replant, although we are slim in numbers, we have a faithful remnant of prayer warriors and unshakable believers preparing for the next period of growth, as we have began meeting in Chancellorsville in a permanent facility.  We are here because we have been led here for the times we are living in right now and we look forward to what God has for us as His children!  It is an exciting time to get involved in the current replant of our church, where we still have needs and offer a place for you to get connected in any of several ministry areas!  Make no mistake, as the world becomes more and more unstable, more and more people are starting to seek God while there is still time to.  With a new church building to meet in, we are ending our time in the desert, so-to-speak - while there was no disobedience or unbelief (the Israelites wandered the desert for 40 years because of their disobedience and unbelief), we have spent the past five years in different temporary meeting locations.  We were formally a bigger church; however, an unexpected transition of pastors right before the pandemic, in conjunction with losing our facility during that time, certainly manifested a great thinning of the church (across the country really, not unique to our body of believers).  We are now meeting in the first church building since Pastor DeWayne was elected as our pastor, so in many ways we are a remnant of our previous church.  But this is God's plan for us.  We're a lively, blessed, anointed, small replant of what we used to be, but don't let this fool you, God meets with us and we have a fresh start, a new beginning and a GLORIOUS future ahead!!!  If you are not looking for a megachurch where you might be lost in the crowd and hidden from any relationship with anyone in the body of Christ, then maybe the Remnant Church is the place for you!  But even if it is not, no matter what body of believers you choose to meet with though, remember that you are not meant to do it alone!  So if you don't have a home church, feel free to come in and get to know us and be part of our family!

Healthy and Engaged Mentorship

Pastor Jacob (the Church that generously shares their facility with us) is a wonderful Brother in Christ, and we also enjoy great fellowship and mentorship from Pastor Dale Donadio, not only a great Man of God and Lead Pastor at River of Life, but also our Sectional Presbyter!  In this new season, God is calling us to prepare for a crowd!  Come and help us prepare, come and join us for praise and worship, the uncompromised teaching of the Word, and some epic fellowship with a happy and fun group of believers!  Welcome to The Remnant Church!!!
